Know Before You Go: The Midway Relief
If you're going to be abroad for an extended period of time find the midway point on your calendar and pack a few items that you think you might be missing/needing by then. For example, my roommate had a package of winter clothes in a cube shaped vacuum bag at her parents' house back in America. When there started to be a chill in the air she had them head down to the post office and mail it over. This can be very expensive if you ship by air. Find out all the different ways you can ship items to and from your future destination.
Depending on the climate of your destination and when you're departing, it might be much easier to ship the next season's clothing instead of lugging it on the plane. The worst possible thing is to have a package lost in international mail. Wait until you're absolutely sure of your address overseas before you ask someone to send you anything. Have a small test package with non-essentials sent to the address. Make sure you Skype or receive a photo of the address as it is written on the box before anyone ships it.
